| DONOVAN KELLY (1941-2013) was a free-lance writer who wrote more than 70 restaurant reviews, life-style columns, and travel pieces for the Washington Post since 1996. He also write for newspapers in Virginia and Pennsylvania and wrote a regular column about a greenhorn country weekender for a weekly West Virginia newspaper. Following brief flings as a geologist, hydrologist and geophysical engineer, he published poetry and fiction and taught courses in science writing. He retired from 30 years of writing science for the general public (senior public affairs officer, U.S. Geological Survey) in 1997. He lived in Hamilton, Virginia, but spent weekends at his mountain cabin in West Virginia splitting wood, writing and daydreaming.
